McCallion Planetarium

In the basement of an old science building on the McMaster University campus there resides a most wonderful and magical place. As you walk down the halls, you can see 'radio-active' materials warnings on some of the doors. But the door you are most interested in is the one marked 'Planetarium'.

The McCallion Planetarium is a very intimate space, completely refurbished in 2008, with comfortable seats, giant dome ceiling, and an extremely advanced 'Digitarium' digital planetarium projector. These coupled with an Astrophysicist's prepared presentation on a given topic make for an 'out of this world' experience.

All shows last about an hour with the first half of the show focusing on our solar system, the constellations, and stars in general. It is a great 'get up to speed' presentation that leads into the specific topic of the show such as 'Seven Ways a Black Hole Can Kill You' to 'Moons of our Solar System'. The audience is encouraged to ask questions to feed their curiosity, and in the intimate space, the format works well.
