Crawford Lake

Milton, ON

Crawford Lake profile image

Crawford Lake is a wonderful educational outing in the Halton Region just over an hour from the city of Toronto. The two main features of Crawford Lake are Iroquoian Village from the 15th century and a serene meromictic lake. And if you are in a mood for a walk, there are 19 kilometers of hiking trails at teh conservation area.

As for Crawford Lake, it is a meromictic lake meaning that it does not receive the same atmospheric disturbances as other bodies of water, so the water remains calm almost all the time. And this makes for some great photos and clear water to take a look at fish and other interesting features. A boardwalk surrounds the lake, so it is quite accessible to almost everyone.

The Conservation Authority has taken great steps to make the Iroquoian Village as pristine and accurate as possible. And the quality shows. Once visitors take a step into the village, they are taking a step back in time. The village tells a very compelling story of a different age, one that is waiting to be discovered.

Crawford Lake has lots of other wonderful features, such as a gift shop and educational displays the field buildings. And it is very child friendly and an entire day can be spent exploring. A great hidden outing.
